Investors’ trust in mutual funds affected due to Corona is now returning. That is why there has been a net inflow of Rs 9,115 crore in equity mutual funds in March. This is the first time in the past 9 months that there has been a net inflow in equity mutual funds. From July till now, there was only net outflow from equity mutual funds.
Investors pulled out Rs 52,528 crore in February
According to the latest data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), investors had withdrawn Rs 52,528 crore from debt mutual funds last month, compared to Rs 1,735 crore in February 2021. According to the data, net inflows from the overall mutual fund industry stood at Rs 29,745 crore in the review period against a net inflow of Rs 4,090 crore in February. Inflow of equity and equity linked open-ended schemes in March stood at Rs 9,115 crore as against an outflow of Rs 4,534 crore in February. Last month saw inflows in all categories except for multi-cap and value funds.
Highest withdrawal of Rs 12,917 crore in November
According to the data, there was a net withdrawal of Rs 2,480 crore in July last year. This was the first time in the past four years that net withdrawals were recorded in equity schemes. This was followed by a net withdrawal of Rs 4,000 crore in August, Rs 734 crore in September, Rs 2,725 crore in October. The highest amount of withdrawals was Rs 12,917 crore in November in 2020. This was followed by a net withdrawal of Rs 10,147 crore in December, Rs 9,253 crore in January 2021 and Rs 4,534 crore in February 2021. Earlier, in June 2020, there was a net investment of Rs 240.55 crore in these schemes.
Investment in equities and gold ETFs also increased
Apart from equity mutual funds, investment in equities and gold exchange traded funds ie ETF also increased last month. According to the data, there was a net investment of Rs 662 crore in these schemes in March. Whereas in February, an investment of Rs 491 crore was made. The total asset under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry stood at Rs 31.43 lakh crore in March. The AUM of the mutual fund industry was Rs 31.64 lakh crore in February.
